Everyone knows MetService. It's the 4th most visited website operated in New Zealand. It's a lot of things to a lot of people; inspiring our weekend plans and often acting as the bearer of bad news. As New Zealand's national weather authority, MetService is there for us 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But as years pass and technology evolves, it was time to bring MetService up to date with its capability to deliver complex data to everyone in NZ.
Modular and dynamic web application
With a modular design approach we designed a system made up of modular components; dynamically generated at the API layer, to house complex data and accommodate a large range of ad sizes. As a team we designed and tested for every possible layout and navigational scenario, providing MetService the flexibility and capability to display the increasing complexity of weather data in a simple user interface.
Specialised weather forecasts
Relevant marine and mountain information is now easy to find and easier to plan around, with forecasts targeted to the user and special interest groups, highlighting specific weather information. Boaties, surfers, fishers, and beach lovers can get marine-specific weather info. Make the most of the ski fields this season, with live cameras and facility statuses at a glance. Check the national park safety information and weather forecasts, so you can pack appropriately for the Great Walks of New Zealand.
